2011 District XII Chorus Audition

The VMEA District XII Chorus audition is open to all choir students in grades 9 through 12. The audition is mandatory for members of the Herndon Chorale and Madrigals.

Mrs. Van Slyke will be there all day helping with auditions. When you arrive check in at the registration desk and then go into the warmup room and sign in. They will call your name when it is your turn. You may use your music if your wish. Practice tracks are available below. This is worth 90 out of 100 points. You will also have a short sightsinging example to perform. This is worth 10 out of 100 points. You will have two judges that sit behind a screen to listen to you. There will also be a student helper in the room to play the CD for you.

The 2011 District XII Chorus event will be held February 10, 11, and 12 at Herndon High School.
2011 Broadway Cabaret Audition
Audition Date: Monday, November 22, 2010
Performance Dates: January 20 and 22, and January 27 and 29, 2011

Everyone at Herndon is welcome to audition for the 2011 Broadway Cabaret. Here is what you need to know for the auditions:
- Auditions will be held in the Choir Room.
- Sign up for a time slot by TBA. Sign-up sheets are posted outside the Choir Room.
- Prepare a 1½ minute excerpt of a musical theatre or Disney song.
- Bring the sheet music, your iPod, or an accompaniment tape or CD to the audition.
- You may dress in costume if you wish, and add in staging if so desired.
Relax, have fun, and break a leg!

2011 All-State Choir Audition
Audition Date: February 10, 2011, at Herndon High School
Event Dates: April 28, 29, and 30, 2011 (location TBA) (selected students)
This audition is for all juniors and seniors who made District XII Chorus. It will be held on the first evening of the District XII Chorus event. Sheet music and audio files will be available on the VCDA website: www.vcda.net

Herndon Concert Choir (Mixed Choir)
Anyone in grades 9–12 is welcome to sign up for Concert Choir without an audition. We would love to
have you!
Show Choir / Vocal Jazz
These are our pop / jazz ensembles. Show Choir dances and sings. We are looking for singers who move and advanced dancers who might be new to singing. Vocal Jazz sings jazz standards without choreography. It is an extra elective. It meets every other morning before school. An extra credit, an extra grade toward your GPA. Freshman and sophomores must also be in another choir. Great option for advanced instrumentalists who also want to sing.

You sign up for a 45-minute time slot. Sign-ups are outside the Choir Office. Ms. Van Slyke will hang up the audition sheet at the workshop so that the 8th graders will have access to the times as well. The audition material will presented at the workshop or can be picked up any time after the workshop.
Current members need to re-audition.
Herndon Chorale (Advanced Womens’ Choir)
Madrigals (Advanced Mixed Choir)
Madrigals are 10th–12th graders with previous choral or instrumental experience.
