Nate Tao is a regionally recognized singer and performer, having been described as “displaying perfect vocal technique and tone” and possessing an “excellent singing voice” (Courtesy: Cappies of DC Area). A unique blend of different characteristics, Nate is a first-generation Asian-American born to deaf parents. He recently began his college career at Ithaca College to study classical voice. In addition to classical voice, Nate also holds a passion for pop and R&B music, inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys. This passion led Nate to become a part of Ithacappella, the all-male a cappella group at Ithaca College, and Hyannis Sound, the all-male a cappella group based in Cape Cod.

While his future plans have not yet taken shape, he remains optimistic and confident about his future successes in one of many possible fields.

Class of 1996

Katrina (Katie) Shinay graduated from Herndon High School in 1996. While at Herndon she was a member of the Madrigals, Show Choir, Wind Ensemble, Vice President of Tri-M, and the recipient of the music department's outstanding senior award.  After graduating from Herndon, she attended Northwestern University where she received her BM in Vocal Performance and Opera, and a certificate degree in music business. She was Vice President of Sigma Alpha Iota, the professional women's music fraternity, and was a recipient of the Sword of Honor for outstanding service to the fraternity. While at NU she was recognized by the Society of American Musicians, and the Bel Canto Foundation. She is an active member of the Northwestern University Alumni Admissions Council and interviews prospective students mainly for admission to the music and theater schools.

After graduating from NU in 2000, Katie attended the Boston Conservatory where she received her MM in Musical Theater.  While at the Conservatory she had the honor of performing with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall. The Boston Herald said of her performance, "the set ended on a high note with Katrina Shinay's dynamic delivery of "Climb Every Mountain" which no doubt rattled the chandeliers." Immediately after graduation from BoCo, she joined the staff of the famed PALS Children's Chorus. She began as a teacher, director, and business manager, and was named the Executive Director in 2004. During her tenure with PALS, she worked with the kids on operas with the Boston Early Music Festival, the Tanglewood Opera Center, and dozens of concerts with various professional Boston music organizations, including the Boston Symphony.

Katie returned to her alma mater of The Boston Conservatory in 2005 to join the staff of the theater division, and was named Assistant Director of the division in 2008, a position she currently holds.

Katie is a proud member of Actor's Equity, and performs throughout the Boston area at various professional theaters including New Repertory Theater, SpeakEasy Stage Company, Fiddlehead Theater, and Reagle Players where she appeared in Carousel starring the legendary Shirley Jones. She has also been seen in concert with Longwood Opera and New England Light Opera.
